1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how awRAG.io ("awRAG," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our universal RAG-as-a-Service platform. This policy should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy.

We are committed to transparency and GDPR compliance in our use of cookies. We only use essential cookies necessary for platform functionality and will always obtain your explicit consent before using any non-essential cookies.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. Cookies allow websites to recognize your device, remember your preferences, and provide essential functionality.

Cookies can be "session cookies" (temporary, deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent cookies" (remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them).

3. How We Use Cookies

awRAG uses cookies for the following purposes:

3.1 Essential Cookies (Strictly Necessary)

These cookies are necessary for the Platform to function properly and cannot be disabled without significantly impacting your ability to use the service. Under GDPR, we do not need your consent to use essential cookies.

Cookie NamePurposeDuration
sb-access-tokenUser authentication and session managementSession (expires on browser close)
sb-refresh-tokenMaintains user session across visits7 days
CSRF-tokenSecurity - prevents cross-site request forgery attacksSession
theme-preferenceRemembers your dark/light mode preference1 year

3.2 Analytics Cookies (Non-Essential)

🍪 Current Status: No Analytics Cookies Used

awRAG currently does not use any analytics or tracking cookies. We prioritize your privacy and only use essential cookies for platform functionality.

In the future, if we implement analytics to improve the Platform, we will:

  • Request your explicit consent before setting any analytics cookies
  • Provide a clear cookie consent banner with granular controls
  • Use privacy-respecting analytics tools (e.g., Plausible, Fathom) that anonymize data
  • Allow you to opt out at any time through cookie preferences
  • Update this Cookie Policy with details about the specific cookies used

3.3 Marketing Cookies (Non-Essential)

🚫 No Marketing Cookies Used

awRAG does not use marketing, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies. We do not share your data with advertisers or use cookies to track you across other websites.

4. GDPR Compliance & Cookie Consent

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the ePrivacy Directive, we are required to:

  • Obtain Explicit Consent: We must obtain your explicit, informed consent before setting non-essential cookies (analytics, marketing)
  • Provide Clear Information: We must clearly explain what cookies we use, why we use them, and how long they last
  • Allow Granular Control: You must be able to accept or reject different categories of cookies separately
  • Respect Opt-Out: You must be able to withdraw consent and delete cookies at any time
  • Block Before Consent: Non-essential cookies must not be set until you provide consent

Current Implementation: Since we only use essential cookies, no consent banner is currently required. If we introduce non-essential cookies in the future, we will implement a GDPR-compliant cookie consent mechanism before doing so.

5. Third-Party Cookies

Supabase Authentication: Our authentication system (Supabase) uses cookies to manage user sessions. These are essential cookies necessary for you to log in and use the Platform. Supabase's privacy practices are detailed in their Privacy Policy.

Payment Processor: When you make a payment, our third-party payment provider may set cookies to process your transaction securely. These cookies are controlled by the payment provider and are covered by their privacy policy.

No Third-Party Tracking: We do not allow third-party advertising networks, social media platforms, or analytics providers to set cookies on our Platform for tracking purposes.

6. Managing Cookie Preferences

You have several options for managing cookies:

6.1 Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can:

  • View and delete cookies stored on your device
  • Block all cookies (note: this will prevent you from using the Platform)
  • Block third-party cookies while allowing first-party cookies
  • Set your browser to notify you when cookies are being set

Browser-specific cookie management guides:

6.2 Cookie Preferences (Future Feature)

If we introduce non-essential cookies, we will provide a cookie preference center where you can:

  • View all cookies we use with detailed descriptions
  • Accept or reject cookie categories individually
  • Change your preferences at any time
  • Access your cookie settings from any page

6.3 Impact of Blocking Cookies

⚠️ Important Notice

If you block or delete essential cookies, you will not be able to log in or use the Platform. Essential cookies are strictly necessary for authentication, session management, and security.

7. Do Not Track (DNT) Signals

Some web browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals to websites that you do not want to be tracked across websites. Since we do not use tracking or analytics cookies, DNT signals do not affect your experience on our Platform.

If we introduce analytics in the future, we will honor DNT signals and not set analytics cookies for users with DNT enabled.

8. Local Storage & Session Storage

In addition to cookies, we use browser local storage and session storage to:

  • Store user preferences (e.g., theme selection, UI settings)
  • Cache application data for improved performance
  • Temporarily store form data to prevent data loss

Like essential cookies, local storage is necessary for Platform functionality. You can clear local storage through your browser settings (Developer Tools → Application → Local Storage).

9. Updates to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our use of cookies, legal requirements, or platform features. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
  • Notify you via email or through a prominent notice on the Platform
  • Request new consent if we introduce new cookie categories

We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
